You might ask: “who IS Anthony Botelho? and why should I vote for him?”  My answer would be “Because I’m the best person to represent you on the San Benito County Board of Supervisors.”  So if I could take a little bit of your time I’ll explain why your vote for me will be a positive one.

My parents, Jim and Carol De Morales Botelho, raised me here in the San Juan Valley: my grandmother, Veronica Botelho, a daily attendee at the Old Mission, still cooks me breakfast most Sunday mornings. From my grandfather, Anthony, I inherited my sense of commitment to my community as well as my love of farming.

I went to St. Joseph’s High School, Modesto Junior College, California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo, and, while I was on the San Benito County Planning Commission, I took a UC Davis course in community planning.

Susan Bailey and I were married at Mission San Juan Bautista in 1985 and we have lived  here in the San Juan Valley ever since, managing our business as well as helping our community plan for the future.

Since finishing college and getting married  I have done a lot of local community service.  I’ve been a captain and treasurer at the San Juan Volunteer Fire Department, an exhibition judge for the Aromas-San Juan School District, past president of the San Benito County Farm Bureau,  past president of the Hollister Firefighter’s Association, director of the San Benito County Labor Association, and a volunteer for the San Juan Fiesta Rodeo. I belong to the San Juan Service Club and to the Elk’s Club.

My local government service experience includes being on the Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee for the Aromas-San Juan School District; the San Benito County Water Association; the San Benito County Resource Conservation District; and the San Benito County Planning Commission.

Currently I’m the manager as well as owner of my orchard in San Benito County, and a managing partner in my family’s local business.  I have been an engineer with the Hollister Fire Department and after college I was an inspector for the Department of Food and Agriculture.

San Benito County is a special place.  We are blessed with good land, clean air, and abundant water and to protect these valuable resources for the future, we have to begin planning today.  We are fortunate to live in an area that has numerous opportunities for us, and for our children.  However, we have to be aggressive and protect the quality of life we all want to enjoy in the long term.

I feel that we have to avoid the costs, to coming generations, that will come of the poor planning we have seen so far. And we have to become a stronger influence in our region. I think you’ll agree that I have the ability and leadership experience to accomplish this mission.

I and my family have a long history of service to San Benito County, and I can say with pride that I’m working hard to maintain this tradition of service to our community.  I was raised with the idea that we should contribute as much as possible to our families, our businesses and to our community.  This is why I’m asking you to please join me in this effort, and support me for Supervisor to vote for me for Supervisor representing District 2 of San Benito County in the November 2004 election.
